THE City Government of San Fernando through their Women's Week Executive Committee on Wednesday, September 12, trained some women from barangays Del Rosario and San Isidro on food processing at the Barangay Del Rosario barangay hall here.

The participants were trained on processing food products like tocino, atchara, tinapa, tilapia, and longaniza.

Romulo “Chef Caloy” Carlos, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) accessor and Saint Mary’s Angels College of Pampanga chef trainer, explained in an interview that every time he conducts a training, the participants often put this into practice.

“We were tasked by Tesda to conduct this training. We were also invited here because of the city’s Women’s Week celebration, and for that, we are more than willing to share our expertise and skills when it comes to food processing,” he said.

Carlos said that after the participants acquired the skill, he hopes that they will put it into practice as it could be for their livelihood, business or a necessity and share it to everyone.

Maria Lisa Acuman Mendoza, Fernandina’s Women Federation Incorporated president, said food processing is what the women wanted.

“We asked them about what kind of training they want, and they said (with) food processing. They chose this kind of training,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza added that the program’s aim is to make women earn extra and said that it is a program here in the city, where a Fernandino could own a business.

The event is one of the activities of the Women’s Week celebration and 144th birth anniversary of Nicolasa Dayrit.
