CLARK Development Corporation's (CDC) best practices in organizing Recyclables and Collection Event (RCE) was recently showcased in the 34th Philippine Chemistry Congress (PCC) in Lahug, Cebu City.

The RCE is CDC's efforts to promote awareness on the proper disposal, treatment and management of hazardous wastes.

CDC-Environmental Permits Division (EPD) Assistant Manager Mayflor Candelaria, a registered chemist, served as one of the keynote speakers and presented her research paper titled: "Management of Lamp Wastes (Hg) in the Clark Freeport Zone: The CDC Experience."

The presentation showcased the collection of selected office, household and hazardous wastes conducted by the CDC's Environmental Permits Division, in partnership with the Environmental Practitioners Association (EPA) and the Environmental Management Bureau in Central Luzon since 2010 during the annual RCE.

Aligned with the conference's theme "Chembisyon 2019: Kimiko para sa Sariling Bayan," Candelaria also shared CDC's best practices in organizing RCEs that allow small-medium enterprises (SMEs) and households in Clark Freeport to dispose hazardous wastes properly.

Since the event's inception in 2010, CDC has already collected 159,42 pieces of busted lamps and removed and stabilized around 239,136 milligrams of mercury in lamps from further harming the environment and posing a threat to public health.

Meanwhile, 14 chemists from CRL Environmental Corporation, a locator in Clark Freeport, also participated in the said conference.

PCC serves as a venue for the updating of registered chemists on new national laws and regulations affecting the profession and the various industries with chemistry professionals in the fields of analytical, inorganic, organic, biochemistry, medicine, environment, and other related fields.

The conference also provides suppliers of chemical instruments and related equipment to showcase innovative products and technologies impacting chemical industries and laboratories. (PR)
