THE Department of Agriculture (DA) recently completed the Plant Nursery and Consolidation Facility for Sweet Potato Clean Planting Materials (CPM) for Bataan farmers, which is expected to open up opportunities to earn more from their harvest.

Implemented under the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP), the P4.8 million worth of project aims to promote higher yields and production in support of the OneDA approach.

The Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO 3), in cooperation with the Project Support Office (PSO), conducted a final inspection on June 18 where the said project can be considered 100 percent complete in structure after some adjustments have been made.

Through the facility, farmers were assured of the availability of CPM from Binukawan Bicol Marketing Cooperative (BBMC).

The BBMC will also start propagating the plantlet which is a source of C1 which the plant nursery needs to protect and prevent pests and diseases that can attack the plantlets.

In addition, the cooperative will create community employment opportunities that will provide income to maintain and improve the condition and livelihood of the beneficiaries.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
