Elderly lounge launched in Candaba town

SENIOR citizens in Candaba now have a comfortable place for rest and relaxation after the Yabut family, in partnership with the local government, opened Friday, September 20, the Lolo Miding and Lola Pipang Yabut Elderly Lounge.

Named after the Yabut family's patriarch and matriarch, the brand new facility is located in Barangay Pasig, Candaba, right beside the Candaba Community Hospital and other soon-to-rise government establishments.

The facility is fully-airconditioned and has three hospital beds for the safety of the elderly, a dining area complete with utensils and cookware, restrooms and an entertainment center complete with a television and karaoke.

Former board member Ric Yabut, one of the benefactors of the project, said the elderly lounge aims to provide a place of comfort to senior citizens in the town, especially those who have little means for relaxation.

"Our parents have always wanted to help our fellow Candabeños but during their time, they have only done so much with their little resources. And now that my siblings and I have more means, we decided to pool in our resources and build this structure for the elderly of Candaba," Yabut said.

"Since Candaba has 33 barangays, some of which are one to two hours away from here, they can take a rest here and have a little entertainment in between their travels, or after their check-ups in our community hospital which is located right beside it," he added.

Yabut, together with his other siblings who attended the blessing and turnover to the local government, urged Candabeño senior citizens to avail themselves of the free services at the lounge and maximize its use as it is built primarily for their benefit.

Mayor Rene Maglanque, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to the Yabut family for sharing their resources and always remembering their fellow Candabeños amid their successful careers and personal lives.

"We are happy to know that a portion of our government-owned lot is again put into worthy and beautiful project through the help and initiative of the Yabut family. We are positive that this good-deed project will benefit our beloved senior citizens," he said.

Maglanque added that the local government is willing to provide other necessary equipment that may help senior citizens, as well as vehicles to serve them from their respective barangays to the lounge and back, if needed.
