Floods affect 98,000 coastal residents

ALMOST 100,000 residents in coastal towns of Macabebe and Masantol are currently enduring the effects of flooding brought by the recent heavy rains and occurrence of high tide.

Based on the recent situational report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), some 94,975 individuals from 18,995 families in the two towns are still affected by flooding.

Around 51,605 individuals from 10,321 families come from Macabebe town, while the remaining 43,370 individuals or 8,674 families are from Masantol town, the PDRRMO reported.

Governor Dennis Pineda personally inspected the situation and assessed the extent of damage caused by flooding in the coastal towns. A total of 35 barangays are still submerged in floodwaters.

Pineda, in coordination with Macabebe Mayor Bobong Flores and Masantol Mayor Danilo Guintu, said they will provide relief packs and other necessary assistance to affected residents this week.
