THIRD District Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. had committed to fund the planned P50 million Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) campus in this capital city.

This, as the City Council Committee on Education led by City Councilor Aurelio Brenz Gonzales started consultative hearings on the said project.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Education met yesterday at the City Council Session Hall to finalize the project details.

The meeting was attended by officials of DHVSU led by President Enrique Baking who met with local stakeholders.

Councilor Gonzales assured that the proposal for a campus in the city would benefit those living in the Northern communities of San Fernando and the big resettlement areas of the city.

He said that the project will be a great boost in building more educated and skilled manpower for the city.

Baking said the DHVSU Board had approved a lineup of courses that would not compete with the regular programs of the City College.

He added that most of the programs will focus on the needs of the surrounding communities like vocational and technical courses.

The elder Gonzales said he will help in sourcing out funds for the project which includes a four-story building that is expected to be built on local government property.

He also committed to helping fund the initial operating expenses of the project.

City Vice Mayor Benedict Jasper Lagman assured that the efforts of the younger Gonzales will be placed urgent legislation to be pushed by the City Council.

The project needs a SP resolution for the city council to grant the mayor authority to enter into a tri-partite agreement for the establishment of the campus.
