GUAGUA -- Mayor Dante Torres, with the help of the Department of Agriculture, led the launching of the Manukan sa Bakuran program that aimed to provide additional means of income and sustainable food supply for people in the barangays in the middle of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Torres said an initial of 60 beneficiaries were given free-range chicken stocks to kick-start the said program. The program aims to propagate local chicken varieties in the backyards of people in rural areas of the town for their food and, if possible, to sell.

“Our goal had been to drive the movement for sustainable agriculture in neighborhoods and homes. We have started with giving out seeds for vegetable growing and now poultry raising for our communities,” Torres said.

The mayor added other livestock will also be made available in the coming days for other sectors in the community like farmers and those with large backyards.
