June 15 is special non-working holiday in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- President Rodrigo Duterte, through Proclamation 960 s. 2020, declared June 15 this year as a special non-working day in Angeles City and Pampanga.

The proclamation was announced in Governor Dennis Pineda's Facebook account.

This is to give ample recognition and commemoration to the second-largest volcanic eruption in the 20th century that caused massive destruction in the Provinces of Zambales, Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija and occurred at Mount Pinatubo in Zambales on June 15, 1991.

The order aims to render appropriate tribute to those who perished, as well as to those who survived and to those who helped in the relocation, rehabilitation and recovery of Pinatubo affected families in Pampanga.

On the legislative level, it could be remembered that in 2011, then Pampanga Third District Representative Aurelio Gonzalez Jr. filed House Bill 3948, which seeks to make June 15 every year a non-working day in Pampanga, being Mt. Pinatubo Memorial Day.
