PORAC -- Officials of the local government unit (LGU) here and a fraternity conducted a summer circumcision mission recently as part of their social service program for the local community.

A joint project of Ex-Officio Board Member and Councilor Fritzie David-Dizon, Vice-Mayor Dexter David, Dante Del Rosario, Village Chairman Rey David, Kagawad Benjie Duya and the Tau Gamma Phi, free circumcision was done to young boys of Barangay Jalung here recently.

David said that the mission was composed of volunteer doctors and nurses who trooped to Barangay Jalung for the free surgery. The event was organized to provide safe circumcision services to children.

"We are a country that adheres to the tradition of circumcision. But we also know that some of our poor folk often avail of the traditional 'tuli' which is rather not safe," David said.

Less for its part in good hygiene, circumcision is considered a rite of passage for young boys. Aside from being a cultural ritual it also posed a sanitary and hygienic importance such as decreasing the risk of urinary tract infections.
