MAGALANG -- The local government unit here has denied in what it described as fake news reports that a municipal-wide lockdown will be enforced following the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the town.

In its Facebook page, the municipal government clarified it has no power to impose a municipal-wide lockdown.

"Wala pong katotohanan na ila-lockdown ang buong bayan ng Magalang. Wala pong kapangyarihan ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Magalang na i-lockdown ang buong bayan," the LGU stated.

The local government urged the residents to be careful in picking up reports and always visit the town's social media page, the Municipality of Magalang.

"Maging maingat po tayo sa pagkakalat ng balita at tumutok lamang sa mga opisyal na Facebook pages para sa totoong balita," it added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Romy Pecson lifted the temporary and localized lockdown of Nuevo Vista Ville Subdivision on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, after three members of a family residing in the area, who tested positive for Covid-19, were transferred to a medical quarantine facility.

The local government has recorded a total of 13 Covid-19 cases, as of August 6.

Two new cases were reported including a 39-year old delivery driver in Metro Manila, who resides in Barangay San Antonio here, and a 47-year old man from Barangay San Jose in this town.

The local government had placed Barangay San Antonio under temporary lockdown to identify the close contacts of patients Patient M12 from the said village.

Pecson appealed to the residents to stay home and practice social distancing, wear face masks and follow other safety protocols to prevent being infected by Covid-19.
