THE local government of Magalang has started distributing P2.9 million worth of social pension to some 2,893 senior citizens residing in different villages all over this agricultural town.

The Municipal Government, under the leadership of Mayor Romy Pecson, has given away the funds to Magalang residents with ages 70 and above.

Pecson and Councilor Koko Gonzales led the recent distribution of last quarter social pension to the elderly living in San Isidro.

The mayor, who is seeking reelection in next year's polls, said the social pension for the seniors is one of the programs he promised when he regained his post as local chief executive in 2019.

The beneficiaries were qualified based on the list of the local social welfare office and the Office of the Seniors Citizens Affairs or OSCA.

Relatives of qualified elderly may coordinate with senior citizens office in their respective barangays, according to the mayor.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
