THE centuries-old St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church in the municipality of Mastantol, Pampanga is undergoing renovation.

Mayor Danilo Guintu, who spearheads the rehabilitation activities, said the church's floor level is being upgraded to prevent flood from reaching it.

The church's interior, including its ceiling and altar, is also being improved while pews will be replaced, Guintu said.

"During the rainy season, the flood reaches and sinks the church and since we have already upgraded the municipal hall compound and the road, we wanted our church to catch up," he said.

The exterior design will be kept to preserve the church's cultural identity, which was built in 1894.

The mayor said Masantoleños here and abroad are pooling in cash donations to fund the renovation and purchase of pews.

"We are very grateful for the support of our kabalens from all over the world in this project. Your donation, big or small, is very helpful in improving the church of our Apung Igue," he said.
