Masantol exec to penalize PUJ drivers over 'cutting trips'

Princess Clea Arcellaz

THE local government unit (LGU) of Masantol will penalize drivers of public utility jeepneys (PUJ) who will cut their trips short.

Complaints reached the LGU from commuters of PUJ drivers who drop passengers nearby Macabebe town instead of dropping them at the terminal in the town plaza.

The LGU cited the Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 of the Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board and Department of Transportation which penalizes drivers and operators who do not abide by their franchise limitations.

Under the said order, drivers who are caught should pay P5,000 for the first offense, P10,000 for the second offense, and P15,000 and cancellation of the operator's franchise for the third offense.

Vice Mayor Epifanio Lacap Jr. said the LGU has deployed personnel from the General Services Office to monitor and apprehend erring drivers.

He also urged passengers to report to the LGU if they experience and or know drivers who will violate the law for proper apprehension.
