THE daily average number of new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases reported in Arayat, Pampanga have decreased from more than 10 to five since last week, Mayor Emmanuel "Bon" Alejandrino said.

Alejandrino said the number of Covid-19 cases in the town has surged from January to April 2021, infecting over 200 residents including the mayor himself and his wife.

"The surge started to decline by the start of May and last week, we were only averaging five new cases per day," he said.

From May 5 to 11, the rural health unit here recorded 37 new cases of Covid-19.

The mayor cited the continuous disinfection activities conducted in public places and barangay roads as one of the reasons behind the drop in numbers.

Alejandrino asked for Arayateños' cooperation to curb the spread and minimize the threat of Covid-19.

He said suspected Covid-19 cases must immediately coordinate with rural health units for testing and proper isolation process.

He added that observance of health protocols also remains one of the best armors against the dreaded virus.

"Our fight against Covid-19 may be far from over but we can get through this easier if we continue to be united," the mayor said.
