APALIT Mayor Peter Nucom on Monday, March 11, expressed confidence that the local elections would be peaceful despite the town being placed under the election watchlist.

Local police had disclosed that Apalit town was placed under the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and Philippine National Police election watchlist due to untoward incidents in the past elections.

“The status is just a precaution and I believe that peace and unity will prevail in our municipality during and even after the elections,” Nucom said in an exclusive interview with Sun.Star Pampanga.

Nucom also assured the voting public that all candidates have committed to ensure an honest and clean elections during the peace covenant signing initiated by the local police and Comelec.

During the said event, Nucom said that all candidates were united in the common goal of waging a peaceful and orderly campaign.

“So far, all of us candidates have been compliant with our commitment during the peace covenant signing and I am hopeful that we will remain as one especially that the campaign period is set to officially start soon,” he noted.

The campaign for local candidates will begin on March 29.
