MABALACAT City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo has bared his plan to adopt Japanese technology in the local governance.

Garbo particularly mentioned a waste-to-energy power plant, a waste management facility that combusts wastes to produce electricity.

The mayor said the local officials' recent visit in Japan had been very productive.

"We always say that even though we are there [in Japan], it's still service to the people. To lend a hand to our Kabalen," he added.

Garbo said the city needs to keep pace with technology and development of other countries, like Japan.

"Japan is a fast-growing country. It is a highly-industrialized country. We visited a waste-to-energy plant in the middle of a housing area. The facility looks like an ordinary building. You will never think that there are waste inside. There are no flies, no odor, and smoke," Garbo said in Kapampangan.

The facility produces a huge amount of electricity that supply the whole locality, according to the city official.

"They convert waste into energy. If you take a look at it, it is self-generating. The power they use in that building comes from the waste they process," he said.

Members of the City Council were able to join the trip, which Garbo described as very timely as an investor recently proposed to the local government a similar project.

"Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council) really need to go with us in that trip. For example, an entity proposed to construct a waste-to-energy power plant. It is important that our councilors have a basis. That is why I thank them for their support. They had seen project. If an investor presented the project, they know what they are saying as legislators," Garbo said.
