CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Mayor Vilma Caluag of this city has sought the intervention of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on the impending increase in rate of the San Fernando Electric Light and Power Corporation.

Caluag personally delivered her letter addressed to ERC Chief Executive Officer Monalisa Dimalanta containing concerns on the power rate hike.

The expected increase in SFELAPCO charges is expected to go as high as 50% and will take effect on the February billing cycle.

Caluag cited in the letter the alleged insufficient information dissemination of SFELAPCO regarding the electric rate adjustments.

She added that her letter also aims to ensure that the increase in SFELAPCO’s generation charge will follow the proper and legal procedure.

Prior to her letter to ERC, Caluag had sent a letter to SFELACO seeking transparency and breakdown of their charges.

The move was supported by the city’s Multi-Sectoral Governance Committee and the Association of Barangay Chairmen.

A legislative inquiry on the matter was launched by the Sangguniang Panlungsod recently.
