A PAMPANGA-BASED processed meat company assured its consumers of their product quality.

In a statement, Mekeni Food Corporation president Prudencio Garcia maintained that all their raw meats are strictly inspected by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and that they have all the required certification from regulatory bodies.

Mekeni’s statement came after reports that their products tested positive for contamination of African Swine Fever (ASF) virus.

“As an ISO-certified company, we strictly adhere to the highest food safety standards for many years,” Garcia said in his statement.

Garcia also assured their consumers that “we are doing everything we can to validate this issue and have full transparency on the testing procedure conducted by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).”

Garcia added that they have not yet received an official report from BAI regarding the ASF issue with their products.

“We sincerely apologize for the panic the issue has caused. Like every one of you, we care about every Filipino family that patronizes and loves our products,” Garcia said in his statement.

The Department of Agriculture earlier confirmed that some processed meat products including hotdog, tocino, and longganisa tested positive for ASF. However, the agriculture department did not identify the brand of contaminated products.
