Minalin residents get hydroponic greenhouse

MINALIN A group of vegetable growers from this municipality is now venturing to hydroponic farming.

This, after the Department of Agriculture Region III (DA-3) turned over the hydroponic greenhouse to Bulac Vegetable Growers’ Association.

The facility grows lettuce through a farming system that does not use soil.

It only uses mineral nutrient solution through an inert medium such as perlite, gravel, mineral wool, expanded clay, or coconut husk.

The greenhouse has already grown 1,000 lettuce that are ready for harvesting.

The hydroponic farm project has a funding of P913,894.3 through the DA-3’s High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP).

The project is one of the four hydroponic farms established by DA in the province.

The HVCDP said the facility will help provide a year-round income to the association, and provide the town self-sufficiency and food security.

Members of Bulac Vegetable Growers’ Association expressed gratitude to DA-3 for realizing their dream of modernizing their farming method.

“Alam ko na mag-ge-generate ito ng malaking kita lalong lalo na sa aming mga farmer. Napakaganda ng project na ito at tuwang-tuwa kami na isa kami sa mga napili na mapagkalooban nito,” said the group’s chairman, Jimmy Arrubio.
