PHLPost celebrates World Post Day; urged students to write letters

THE Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) celebrated World Post Day on Tuesday by encouraging the students to write letters to their beloved teachers.

Schools nationwide took part in the nationwide “Salamat Po (Thank you) Teacher” raffle promo and competition. The goal was to “effectively promote the value of gratitude to teachers who have done most, apart from their parents in shaping their future to become better persons in society.

World Post Day was declared by the 1969 Universal Postal Congress in Tokyo as a means to mark the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) creation in 1874.

The purpose of World Post Day is to bring awareness to the postal service’s role in everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development. PHLPost is an active member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations who has a membership of about 192 postal administrations in countries worldwide.

The postal service invited elementary, junior and senior high school students to write and mail letters of gratitude.

Those who joined wrote a “Thank You” letter to their teachers. These letters were sealed in an envelope where the complete details of the sender and addressee were clearly written and visible.

The “thank you” letters were mailed via the Post Office through the Ordinary Mail Service, using the theme: “4A’s of Gratitude: Appreciation, Admiration, Approval, and Attention.” Awards and cash prizes await the raffle and competition winners.

Aside from the raffle draw, students also participated in the regional and national letter writing competition. The winner in the national competition will represent the Philippines in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Letter Writing Contest in Berne, Switzerland to compete from among the 192 countries who are also members of the UPU.

Unfazed by the advent of technology, PHLPost has come up with an innovative idea to bring letter writing to schools. For particulars, please visit the official FB page: https://www.facebook.com/SalamatPoLetterWriting/. (Press Release)
