CONSUMERS around Bataan province may still need to abstain from shellfish this holiday season as the red tide warning in the province’s coastal waters remains up as the year ends.

Based on Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Central Luzon latest Shellfish Bulletin No. 26 Series of 2019, it noted that shellfishes collected from Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Hermosa, Orani, Abucay, and Samal are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond the regulatory limit.

The BFAR advisory said gathering and harvesting and marketing of shellfish from Bataan is now discouraged as it is not safe for human consumption.

The BFAR and local government units concerned are now monitoring affected areas to ensure the safety of consumers.

The red tide warning in Bataan province was first raised on October 2019 and has not been not lifted since then.
