“WHAT men can do, women can also do.”

This was the motto shared by Mayor Leonora Wong to her fellow Simonian women as San Simon town joined this year’s global celebration of International Women’s Day over the weekend.

With a battlecry “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change,” local government employees led by Wong joined hands in continuously pressing for equality among all genders and the empowerment of women.

“Women are not left behind anymore now. We are already part of nation-building and we have been excelling in our own chosen fields. Indeed, women can, yes we can!” Wong said.

Wong said that Simonians’ choice to elect her as the local chief executive for three consecutive terms is a testament of the community’s trust and confidence on the capability of women.

Aside from Wong, three women councilors namely Crisanta Macapagal, Irene David and Nikki Marcelo were also elected by Simonian during 2016 polls.

“This just goes to show that women are already recognized in San Simon, and that gender equality reigns in our municipality,” she said.
