SAN SIMON -- A heavy downpour failed to dampen the spirit of Simonians celebrating their town's 248th founding anniversary in the patio of Nuestra Señora del Pilar Parish on Friday evening, November 15.

Themed "Yaku ing Simbulu at Sulu ning Balen," the event showcased the talents of Simonians of all ages through a poster-making contest and the "Simonians Got Talent" show.

Mayor Abundio Punsalan Jr. said 21 students from various schools in town participated in the poster-making contest.

The artworks, Punsalan said, will be repainted as a mural at a dedicated wall at the CDCP junction along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Sta. Monica as part of the local government's clean and green program.

Meanwhile, the "Simonians Got Talent" gathered 14 participants for a showdown of artistic skills such as singing, dancing and acting.

"Apart from celebrating the rich culture and history of our town, we also gave platform to our fellow Simonians who wanted to showcase their talents and artistry through this event," Punsalan said.

Punsalan himself also provided entertainment to the audience as he joined renowned singing priest Rev. Fr. Ric Lusung in rendering songs as intermission numbers.

The first-termer mayor expressed gratitude to Simonians who participated in the event, both as contestants and spectators, despite the heavy rain.

"This is my first time to celebrate San Simon's foundation day as a mayor and it is very overwhelming to see my fellow Simonians supporting this event even if it meant getting wet from the rain," he said.
