AS PART of its corporate social responsibility program, Real Steel Corporation (RSC) on Tuesday, February 19, responded to the government’s call to rehabilitate Manila Bay by clearing the waterways leading to the Manila Bay.

The smelting plant partnered with the Provincial and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources offices and the local government of San Simon for the efficient declogging of drainage systems in the area.

“This initiative of Real Steel Corporation is in support of the call of Manila Bay rehabilitation. We opted to start in our own areas first because all these waterways drains to the Manila Bay so we have to ensure that they are trash and garbage-free,” said RSC pollution control officer Glenn Diwa.

Themed “Towards Garbage-free Drainages, Garbage-Free Riverways, Trash-free Manila Bay,” Diwa added that the activity is also in preparation for the upcoming rainy days to minimize flooding in the area.

She added that the waterways clean-up is not a one-time activity of the smelting plant management, but will be sustained to ensure that drainages and other waterways will be clean and free-flowing.

“We have been engaging our employees in environmental activities because we want to instill in them their concern for the environment. To be able to sustain this, the effort and initiative of everybody is a necessity,” Diwa said.

Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Mel Tayag, for his part, lauded the strong commitment of RSC in spearheading activities that promote environmental protection throughout the years.

“Real Steel Corporation’s regular conduct of clean-up drives has been very beneficial for the community and we recognize their strong commitment to provide assistance and be part of the Simonian community,” he said.
