CLARK FREEPORT -- Officials of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation and the Angeles City government signed an agreement to address traffic woes within the Angeles Interchange.

Angeles City is experiencing traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, due to increase in traffic volume and economic activities.

Under the memorandum of agreement, both parties shall implement measures around the traffic management zone to ease traffic concerns and enhance the safety and security of motorists and pedestrians alike.

These include the deployment of traffic personnel, improvement of service time at the toll plaza, clearing of sidewalks, and prohibition of illegal parking, loading/unloading, and jaywalking affecting the NLEX traffic flow.

The agreement also involves regular consultation between the two parties on plans and policies that may affect the area.

Leading the signing were Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., Angeles City Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, NLEX Corporation Vice President for Asset Management Jennifer Jane Go, and NLEX Corporation Assistant Vice President for Operations Management West Dionisio.

In 2018, NLEX has augmented the Angeles Toll Plaza with two entry lanes and one exit lane, bringing the total toll lanes to 10.

It has also completed a traffic impact study incorporating planned mixed-use and infrastructure developments in the area to develop traffic engineering strategies to improve mobility in the city.
