1 dead, 1 hurt in Samar shooting

AN UNIDENTIFIED gunman shot dead a 30-year-old housewife and injured another army personnel in Calbayog City, Samar, Thursday evening, February 20.

Police identified the victims as Flora Bonayog and Corporal Edgar Lerois, 37, active member of 43rd Infantry Battalion based in Lope De Vega, Northern Samar.

Both were residents of Purok 7, Barangay Tarabucan, Oquendo in Calbayog.

Initial investigation disclosed that at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, February 20, the victims were sitting inside their store at the said place when an unidentified suspect suddenly appeared and shot the victims using an unknown firearm.

Bonayog died on the spot while Lerois was brought to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

Calbayog City Police and Samar Provincial Police Office are now conducting follow-up investigation and pursuit operation for the arrest of the suspect. (SunStar Philippines)
