1 dead, 2 injured in road mishap

AT LEAST one person was dead and two others were injured in a motorcycle accident in Maasin City, Southern Leyte Sunday evening, July 12, 2020.

Police identified the fatality as Constancio Markines Jr., 46, fish vendor, a resident of the city, and driver of the motorcycle.

The injured are Reygie Olita, 27, passenger, and Rufino Guitones, 61, pedestrian.

Initial investigation disclosed Markines, together with his passenger, was driving towards Matalom, Leyte when he lost control of the motorcycle at the curve road along Barangay Manhilo, causing him to bump on a gmelina tree where Guitones was urinating.

The driver had a fatal head injury, while his passenger and the pedestrian were having serious injuries, according to Master Sergeant John Ryan Quisado, who led the responding team from the Maasin City Police Station.

Victims were brought to Living Hope Hospital for medical attention, however, Markines was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Jude Asperin, the attending physician.

Police are investigating the incident.
