2 minors drown in Leyte, Northern Samar

A 14-YEAR-OLD student and a 17-year-old farmer drowned in separate incidents in Leyte and Northern Samar Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

In Palo, Leyte, police identified the victim as a Grade 9 high school student from Barangay Cavite East.

The victim, along with his friends, was swimming in a river when he was carried away by the strong current around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The farmer drowned after he fell into the river in Barangay Vigo, Laoang, Northern Samar around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the victim’s brother, they were hauling coconuts aboard a boat when the victim suddenly suffered a leg cramp and accidentally fell.

The brother tried to help and search the victim but failed to find him.
