6 nabbed for hunting, collecting ‘bayawak’

SIX persons were arrested after they were caught hunting and collecting monitor lizards or “bayawak” in Barangay Tabu, Dulag, Leyte Sunday evening, May 2, 2021.

The alleged violators, aged 21 to 50, were mostly laborers, according to police.

Authorities confiscated from their possession 11 pieces of bayawak, one airgun with 84 pellets used as bullets, and one six-wheeler pick-up truck.

The violators would be facing cases for violation of Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act. (SunStar Philippines)
