9 nabbed for illegal fishing

NINE persons were arrested for alleged illegal fishing activities in Leyte and Biliran Saturday, February 13, 2021.

In Mayorga, Leyte, police arrested a 35-year-old fisherman for violating the municipal ordinance on unregistered fisherfolk.

Authorities confiscated from his possession and control one motorized boat, several fishing paraphernalia and half a kilo of caught fish worth P15,750.

The fisherman is said to be a resident of Barangay San Rafael, Dulag.

Operating units who were conducting seaborne patrol operation in Caibiran, Biliran also arrested eight fishermen for violating an ordinance on the use of active gear in its municipal waters.

The violators, aged 25 to 50 years old, were all residents of Barangay Astorga, Daram, Samar.

Police and personnel from Task Force Kalikasan confiscated from their possession and control one fishing boat with an estimated gross tonnage of MOL three tons to include several fishing paraphernalia and 15 kilos of assorted fish worth P151,500.

The arrested violators were brought to respective police stations for documentation and proper disposition. (SunStar Philippines)
