Bamboo nursery demo farm to rise in Palo town

Ronald O. Reyes

PALO town in Leyte will soon have its bamboo nursery demo farm that will showcase different bamboo species and propagation facilities.

Crisostomo Badeo of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro)-Palo said the farm will serve as a training ground for upland farmers and Enhanced National Greening Program partners in Eastern Visayas.

“Its presence will increase the awareness of the community about the numerous benefits of bamboo, especially as an alternative to wood to increase forest cover,” Badeo said.

The demo farm is also backed by the MacArthur Iron Projects Corporation (MIPC) in support of the flagship reforestation initiative of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Cenro-Palo shall provide the construction area, technical assistance, and administer the operations of the nursery while MIPC shall provide funds for the establishment of the nursery, purchase of equipment and planting materials, and tap technical experts to assist in nursery operations.
