Crime declines in Eastern Visayas, top cop says

Ronald O. Reyes

EASTERN Visayas has logged a “noted drop” in crime incidents in the region from January to February 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.

“It is also due to the full support and cooperation of the community in crime prevention and in reporting any illegal activities and lawless elements in their areas,” said Brigadier General Rommel Francisco Marbil, director of Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas (PRO 8), on Friday, March 10, 2023.

In 2023 of said period, the police regional command recorded 1,304 total crimes in the region, which is lower by 209 than last year's 1,513 total crimes for the same period.

Colonel Raymundo Graveles, chief of Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division 8, reported that as of February 2023, the Tacloban City Police Office ranked first with the highest overall Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) of 88 percent for the period.

On Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE), the Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office ranked first with the highest overall CCE of 97.78 percent for the period.

CSE is the percentage of solved cases out of the total number of crime incidents, while CCE is the percentage of cleared cases out of the total number of crime incidents for a given period of time. (SunStar Philippines)
