Eastern Visayas reports no new Covid-19 cases, no pending samples

EASTERN Visayas recorded no new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and no more pending samples at the regional testing center on Tuesday evening, July 14.

Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center (EVRCTC) released 132 laboratory results, of which 130 are negative and two are positive re-swab results of Patient EV-628 from San Jorge, Samar and EV-546 from Calbayog City.

The laboratory results also included the samples from 26 employees of the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC).

The region remains at 653 cases as of Tuesday with 40 active cases and 610 recoveries, according to the Department of Health (DOH)-Eastern Visayas.

Also, Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) released 25 laboratory results, of which 23 are negative and two are positive re-swab results of EV-636 and EV-637.

Dr. Minerva Molon, regional health director, said the majority of Covid-19 cases in the Eastern Visayas were acquired outside the region.

On Monday, July 13, the regional health department also reported that there was no second generation of Covid-19 transmission among the healthcare workers in the region due to their timely isolation and effective contact tracing.

However, health officials reminded the public "not to be complacent, remain vigilant, and continue to practice the infection prevention and control measures."

Most Covid-19 cases in the region come from Leyte, followed by Samar, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar, according to DOH-Eastern Visayas. (SunStar Philippines)
