Eastern Visayas towns suspend classes due to 'Amang'

SEVERAL local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas have suspended classes both in private and public schools on Monday, January 21, due to Tropical Depression "Amang."

As of Sunday evening, January 20, governors and mayors of the following local government units issued their suspension order as "Amang" is expected to make a landfall in the Surigao del Norte-Siargao Island area Sunday evening.

* Leyte (elementary to secondary)

* Northern Samar

* Tacloban City

* Calbayog City

* Kawayan, Naval

* Almeria, Biliran

* Maasin City, Southern Leyte

* Ormoc city (all levels, public and private)

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Amang was packing maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 60 km/h.

The weather agency raised Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1 in Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, eastern part of Bohol, northern part of Cebu, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Camiguin. (SunStar Philippines)
