Gunmen kill 3, including 14-year-old student, in Calbayog

UNIDENTIFIED gunmen shot and killed three persons, including a 14-year-old student, and injured two others in Barangay Victory, Calbayog City Friday afternoon, April 14, 2023.

Authorities identified the victims as Vicente Luzong, 45, construction worker; Rachel Ann Belino, Grade 8 student; and Angelo Lustico, 43, habal-habal driver.

All died on the spot when the shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday in Purok 2, Barangay Victory, some 10 kilometers away from the city police station.

The wounded persons were identified as Lane Dealagdon, 31, housewife, and Emy Casaljay, a barangay secretary.

In an initial investigation, authorities said the victims were on board two separate motorcycles when they were shot by around seven gunmen without apparent reason upon reaching the said area.

The suspects wore black long sleeves and armed with long rifles and short firearms, according to the police.

They fled on foot toward the mountainous area of Barangay Victory after the shooting incident.

Authorities are conducting hot pursuit operation for the possible identification and arrest of the suspects. (SunStar Philippines)
