Retired army shoots wife, kills self in Maasin City

A RETIRED soldier critically injured his wife before shooting himself in the head in Maasin City, Southern Leyte Tuesday, May 26.

The suspect was identified as Master Sergeant Romeo Carbonilla, 60, and a resident of Barangay Soro-soro, Maasin City.

Initial investigation disclosed the suspect and his 65-year-old wife, Teresita, frequently argued.

Police said the victim and their 30-year-old daughter went upstairs to check the cause of leaking water at around 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, when the suspect, who reportedly suffered from mental illness, opened fire at them, hitting the wife thrice in the different parts of her body.

The suspect then turned the gun on him and shot his head inside the master’s bedroom on the second floor of their residence.
