VICE President Leni Robredo on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, personally extended her sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family of the slain Calbayog City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino.

Robredo, who arrived with no convoy and additional security escorts, stayed for around three hours at the Calbayog Sports Complex where the mayor’s wake is being held.

Photos of Robredo’s private visit were also circulated by the Calbayog City Information Office.

Robredo earlier condemned the killing of the city mayor and called for “clean, competent, and independent” investigation.

“We must connect the dots between these gruesome deaths and see the web that enables and emboldens these killings: impunity, the normalization and incitement of violence, and the kill, kill, kill rhetoric coming from the highest offices,” said Robredo who is a party-mate of the late Calbayog City mayor.

The National Bureau of Investigation had launched a separate probe on the shooting incident that killed the city mayor and six others on March 8, 2021. (SunStar Philippines)

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
