Tacloban starts Moderna vaccination drive

THE City Government of Tacloban launched on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, the pilot implementation of the first batch of Moderna vaccines against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Eastern Visayas.

A total of 2,700 doses were inoculated during the Moderna vaccination roll-out in the region at the Robinsons North and Robinsons Marasbaras in Tacloban, the regional health department reported.

According to the city government, the vaccination site only accommodated employees from different private and public offices and establishments that requested that their essential workers be vaccinated at the said site.

Essential workers ranging from security guards, bankers, janitors, and priests were seen getting their first dose, it added.

Tacloban strictly imposed that no walk-ins would be accepted in the inoculation area.

“Only those who have registered and have been scheduled online for vaccination at safecity.tacloban.gov.ph will be accommodated,” the city government reminded its residents.

Mayor Alfred Romualdez earlier stressed that “the goal of immunizing so many people against the virus is that it loses almost any capacity to threaten us.”

“It would be the end of the pandemic, a triumph over Covid-19,” said Romualdez as he also urged the public to observe the health protocols.

As of Tuesday, August 10, Tacloban has 220 active cases of Covid-19. (SunStar Philippines)
