BRIGADIER General Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot, director of Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas, has ordered the activation of Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) “Maghanoy” to probe the shooting of James Diaz Maghanoy, a Municipal Election Officer of Lope De Vega, Northern Samar.

Maghanoy was shot and killed by still unidentified gunmen while he was on his way home on November 18, 2021.

"With this SITG, I am expecting for the immediate identification of the suspect and his arrest. I also encourage the public to cooperate and give their information to the authorities that will shed light on this case," Cabagnot said.

Colonel Arnel Apud, director of Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO), headed the SITG.

With him were Lieutenant Colonel Marben Ordonia, Task Group commander; Major Deogracias Diaz III, assistant commander; Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Din, secretariat; Captain Alexander Opeña, Lieutenant Colonel Eddie Esidera, Lieutenant Colonel Herardo Hermosilla, and Major Reymund Deyra, members; and Staff Sgt. Ronald Dente, evidence custodian.

On December 2, 2021, the SITG held a case conference at the NSPPO multi-purpose hall.

They discussed the information gathered from their interview with the brother of Maghanoy.

“They have already profiled possible persons of interest thru CCTV footage within the Comelec Office and other places in the area,” the police regional command said. (SunStar Philippines)
