Village councilor, gunman killed in Calbayog shooting

A VILLAGE councilor and one of his four gunmen were killed during a shooting incident in Calbayog City, Samar Thursday afternoon, September 12.

Police said that at 4:56 p.m. of September 12, Simeon Tarrayo, 51, kagawad of Barangay Carmen, Calbayog City, was driving his red Honda XRM motorcycle when he was waylaid by four unidentified assailants along Purok 1, Barangay Dagum.

The gunmen on board two motorcycles shot the victim, hitting him in the different parts of his body.

But the victim, who was also armed with an unknown firearm, managed to retaliate and hit one of the gunmen.

Tarrayo was brought to a nearby hospital for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

One of the gunmen who sustained two gunshot wounds in the chest was found lifeless on the pavement after the incident, said police.

The Calbayog City police, led by Captain Gracila Sabas under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Joel Garcia, are conducting pursuit operation to identify the gunmen. (SunStar Philippines)
