1 arrested, P129,000 smuggled cigarettes seized

LAWMEN have arrested one person for selling smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Police Colonel Diomarie Albarico, Zamboanga del Sur police director, said Randy Paneroso, 25, was arrested around 7:56 p.m. Monday, January 16, in Purok 2, Poblacion B village, Midsalip.

Albarico said Paneroso was arrested in an entrapment operation launched by the police in coordination with the Bureau of Internal Revenue and Bureau of Customs against the sale of smuggled cigarettes.

The entrapment operation forms part of the government's campaign against the distribution and sale of smuggled cigarettes.

Albarico said seized from Paneroso were 186 reams of assorted smuggled cigarettes worth P129,500.

He said the confiscated pieces of evidence and arrested person were brought to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Field Office for documentation and proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
