ONE person was injured while another escaped unscathed in a gun attack by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) in Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Thursday, September 29, 2022.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula reported that the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sitio Macayas, Balok village, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte.

The PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula identified the victim as Judito Lumon, 30. Unscathed was Noel Segundo.

The police said the two friends went to the stream in Sitio Macayas in Balok village to catch fish when suspected NPA rebels led by Lito Lumamba alias Ka Jack shot them with high-powered firearms.

The police said Lumamba and his followers were remnants of the Guerrilla Front Big Beautiful Country of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee.

“They hurriedly hid to avoid being hit by the continuous gunfire,” the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office stated in its report.

The two sought assistance of residents living near the stream and Lumon was taken to the Zamboanga Del Norte Medical Center for treatment. (SunStar Zamboanga)
