TEN high-powered loose firearms were surrendered Thursday, December 6, to military authorities by the residents of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, officials said.

Brigadier General Thomas Sedano, Jr., 2nd Mechanized Brigade commander, credited the successful surrender of the firearms to the efforts of Nunungan Municipal Government officials.

He said the firearms that were surrendered on Thursday included eight Garand rifles, one caliber 30 machinegun and one 40-milimeter grenade launcher.

Major General Roseller Murillo, Army’s 1st Infantry Division commander, commended the efforts of the troops and stakeholders who exerted efforts that led to the surrender of the firearms.

Murillo said the continuous surrender of loose firearms will minimize the crimes and atrocities as well as it will further led to a more progressive community.

“We will continuously work together with stakeholders in bringing just and lasting peace in our area of operation,” said Murillo, who is also the Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) commander. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
