2 coast guard, teacher, 6 others fall in anti-drug stings

NINE people, including two coast guard personnel and a public school teacher, were arrested while some P331,304 worth of illegal drugs were seized in separate anti-drug operations in Zamboanga Peninsula, the police reported Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested two coast guard personnel as Ryan Manuel, 40, and John Capuy, 39, and the public teacher as Marites Manuel, 40.

Chang said they were arrested in an anti-drug operation around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Atis Drive in Baliwasan village, this city.

Chang said recovered from them were some 35.97 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P244,600, a coin purse, and P500 marked money.

Chang identified the other arrested suspects as the following: Karim Alim, 30; Fherlan Plaza, 43; Nurfaina Plaza, 38; Johnray Velez, 18; Raymark Dawana, 18; and, Ibnohassan Ibno, 51.

Seized from Alim were some P4,700 worth of suspected shabu and P200 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 1:55 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Sibigtul Drive in Arena Blanco village, Zamboanga City

The two Plazas yielded some P73,440 worth of suspected shabu, a coin purse and P500 marked money when arrested in an anti-drug operation around 3 p.m. Saturday, May 15, in Cabatangan village, Zamboanga City.

Chang said Velez and Dawana were in possession of some P1,564, a sling bag, and P500 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 7:35 p.m. Saturday, My 15, in Purok Bagong Silang in Sanito village, Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Chang said charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspects, who were detained. (SunStar Zamboanga)
