2 gun-for-hire suspects killed in shootout

TWO suspected guns-for-hire who are members of a crime syndicate were killed in a “stop and frisk” operation in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police said Tuesday, February 05.

Killed were Melvin Louie Bongabong and Ernesto Briones, according to Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director.

Licup said the two were killed in a shootout around 2:45 p.m. Monday along the national highway in Culo village, Molave town.

He said the suspects pulled handguns and aimed at the policemen, prompting the latter to open fire and kill Bongabong and Briones.

Licup said the police were conducting counter-strike and stop and frisk operation following reports of suspects who were about to carry out liquidation mission in Culo village.

Recovered from the two suspects were two caliber .38 revolvers with ammunition and several identification cards,

Licup said intelligence reports showed that the suspects are affiliated with Parojinog crime syndicate, particularly associated with the certain “Quiapo” and involved were in robbery, carnapping, illegal drugs and contract killing. (SunStar Philippines)
