2 hurt, 2 unscathed in ambush

TWO persons were wounded while two others escaped unscathed in an ambush in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday, January 21.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 3:40 p.m. Monday, January 20, along the national highway in the village of Nangka, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

Galvez identified the victim as Abdul Gumikas Kudarat, 53, a carpenter, and Armida Bugat Polo, 30, a housewife.

Unscathed were Saud Ngapas Polo, 25, a fish merchant, and Sittie Ayersha Polo, 1 year old.

Galvez said investigation showed the victims were aboard a Sports Utility Vehicle traveling to the town of Lapuyan from Dinas municipality when ambushed by unidentified gunmen.

She said the suspects fled aboard a white van with no registered plate toward the direction of San Miguel town.

She said the police in Dinas are eyeing personal grudge as the possible motive in the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
