2 killed in separate gun attacks

A MEMBER of the Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) and a village watchman were shot to death in separate gun attacks in the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday, April 7.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the victims as Ibrahim Asadali Chiong, 38, and Richello Alya Rodriguez, 45.

Galvez said Chiong, a CVO, was shot to death by an unidentified person around 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 6 at Purok 6 in the village of Kaliantana, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Chiong was sitting at the balcony of his residence when the suspect appeared and fatally shot him with the use of caliber .45 pistol.

Galvez added Rodriguez, a village watchman, was shot by an unidentified gunman around 5 p.m. Monday at Purok Road Hills in the village of Lower Sibatang, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

She said Rodriguez was tending his water buffalo along the Labangan river when the suspect, armed with caliber .45 pistol, appeared and shot the victim.

She said investigations continue on both incidents to establish the identity of the suspects. (SunStar Zamboanga)
