THREE people, including an infant, died when the motorcycle they were riding slumped into a parked backhoe in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police said Saturday, September 29.

The Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office identified the fatalities as Elizer Engliza, 45; Ciela Tariman, 41; and Ciela’s niece, Myriel Quiño, one year and seven months old.

The police said the incident happened around 3 p.m. Friday in Inagasan village, Aurora.

The police said that Cresencio Tanghal, Jr., reported that the victims were aboard a motorcycle driven by Engliza traveling from the village of Poblacion to Inagasan when they slumped into the bucket of the backhoe parked at the roadside.

Tanghal told the police that he decided to park the backhoe and stopped working since it was raining at that time.

The backhoe is owned by a construction firm undertaking a project in Inagasan village.

The police said the three riders of the motorcycle were rushed, but Tariman and Quiño failed to reach the hospital alive due to severe injuries.

The police said Engliza expired an hour later while undergoing medical treatment in the hospital. (SunStar Philippines)
