AT LEAST 32 family-beneficiaries are now rebuilding or repairing their houses to move forward and bring back normalcy in their lives after the 2017 Marawi siege.
This was made possible through the Construction Materials Assistance (CMA) project of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao's (Barmm) Marawi Rehabilitation Program (MRP).
Engineer Abdulhanuf Ondi, supervising head of the project component unit of MRP management Committee, said that 468 more beneficiaries are expected to receive similar assistance from the Government of the Day to complete the 500 internally displaced persons targeted to benefit from the project.
To ensure proper implementation of the project and assess the ongoing construction, the MRP conducted an onsite visitation and monitoring of the first 32 beneficiaries who are from the Most Affected Areas (MAA), specifically from the villages of Daguduban, Tolali, South Madaya, and Lilod Madaya.
Ondi said that during their assessment, beneficiaries are fully making use of the construction materials provided to them by the Barmm.
Ondi said the CMA Project has three components: provision of construction materials, training for laborers, and subsidies for laborers.
The building materials are worth P240,000 and specifically consist of four items: formworks, concrete and masonry, plumbing items, and electrical materials.
MRP also partnered with Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education-Technical Education and Skills Development for the training of the beneficiaries, who will also serve as laborers, primarily on carpentry, masonry, and electrical installation.
To further assist the laborers, a subsidy worth P60,000 will also be granted to them.
The CMA project is an original idea of the implementing office, with no similar existing project as basis. Challenges in the operations, particularly in the warehousing of the construction materials, were faced upon implementation, which they hope to address in the second phase of the project.
Marawi rehabilitation is given utmost primacy in the prioritization of the Barmm Government, being one of the Enhanced 12-Point Priority Agenda of Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim. (SunStar Zamboanga)
