Anti-illegal fishing drive nets 10 fishermen

POLICEMEN backed by fishery authorities have arrested 10 fishermen in two separate anti-illegal fishing off the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, an official announced Friday, February 5, 2021.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said five of the 10 fishermen were arrested around 1:20 p.m. Thursday in the municipal water of Lpirawan village, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco identified them as the following: Carlo Teves Vergis, 32; Ricky Llanes Matugas, 27; Along Alegria Llanes, 30; Miggie Boy Busmion Tubil, 28; and Wilfredo Oclaret Solacas, 42.

Duco said the policemen and fishery personnel were on seaborne patrol when they chanced upon the five fishermen engaging in illegal fishing.

Confiscated from the five fisherment were three motorboat engines of 10 horse power each, 70 meters mesh net and 200 meters rope with estimated total value of P100,000.

Duco identified the other arrested fishermen as follows: Rosaldo Catinza Galorio, 35; Gibson Vergis Galorio, 27; Ronald Losano Pableo, 32; Renie Pableo Sulieta, 28; and Bito Catinza Galorio, 44.

They were arrested engaging in illegal fishing around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the municipal seawater of Bagong Buhay village, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Confiscated from them were three motorboat engines 10 of horse power each, 70 meters mesh net and 200 meters rope with estimated total value of P100,000.

Duco said the apprehended fishermen and fishing paraphernalia were turned over to police for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
